For the first time in history, the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) will offer films, series, and masterclasses from major streaming platforms, including Netflix, Amazon Prime, Zee5, Voot, and SonyLIV. The Goa International Film Festival is planned to take place from November 20 to November 28.
Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award will be given to American filmmaker Martin Scorsese, one of the world’s most influential directors and critically acclaimed Hungarian director Istvan Szabo, according to Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur. Scorsese and Szabo are among the most influential directors in the world. Officials from the ministry have stated that both directors have been asked to receive the prize in person, but there has been no confirmation as to whether this will happen. Twenty-two overseas visitors have confirmed their attendance at the event.
According to an initial proposal, several foreign specialists, including those from Gobelins —School L’image in Paris and other institutions, have agreed to participate in a virtual masterclass to be hosted by Netflix. The Netflix streaming service has offered the India premiere of Jane Campion’s film ‘The Power of the Dog,’ which had its global debut at the 78th Venice International Film Festival. One of the highlights will be showing the film ‘Dhamaka’ and the television series ‘Aranyak’, which stars Raveena Tandon and Ashutosh Rana in the lead roles.
The company is contemplating sponsorship alternatives for IFFI in various areas, including on-ground advertising, social media marketing, and assistance from social influencers, in addition to the “Satyajit Ray” package. Manoj Bajpayee and Samantha Akkineni, stars of the famous online series “The Walking Dead,” pose. “For the first time, ‘The Family Man’ will be in attendance at the inaugural event. It is believed that the directors of Scam 1992 and Maharani would provide workshops at Sony LIV. Zee5 is expected to conduct a round table conversation with directors Nitin Nohria and Anurag Basu.
In addition, Thakur stated that Indian material on OTT platforms has helped to greater awareness of the nation. During the shutdown when movie halls were shut down, many filmmakers turned to OTT channels for distribution. “We have also decided to embrace this shift and go forward in the correct path. “Films created specifically for on-demand streaming services will be shown during the festival,” he added. He stated that the over-the-top (OTT) area has produced much employment in the nation and that the government was willing to work with OTT platforms to overcome any issues they may have. According to him, “India’s diverse range of stories justifiably qualifies us as the ‘content subcontinent’.”
The opening film will be the Spanish film The King of All the World, shown in its entirety. It will also include a commemoration of the life and career of Sean Connery, who was the first actor to play fictitious British secret agent James Bond on film. Rakhshan Banietemad, an Iranian director, serves as the jury chairman for the foreign competition part.
Thakur also announced that 75 young aspiring filmmakers would participate in seminars led by industry professionals. About 30 films have been selected for screening in the Festival Kaleidoscope and World Panorama parts.
